Ensuring providers have a voice in the inspection process is central to LCA’s role. We argue for the right checks and balances in the process of inspection (signposting ‘natural justice’ principles) and call for a ‘duty of care’ to be owed to providers in the conduct of inspection and other service monitoring (cf ‘West Sussex’ case).
We also argue that commissioning and resourcing plays a key role in delivering service outputs and outcomes and these also should be subject to scrutiny when looking at quality and safety in care.
LCA have conducted a number of surveys looking at providers’ experiences of a CQC inspection. The full report on the first four surveys ‘An Inspector Calls’ can be read here.
