For EPICS 'Swine flu' fortnightly update
Emergency Planning for the Independent Care SectorLCA’s profile continues to develop. Our focus is steadily moving towards a broader adult care focus, rather than solely older people – the biggest change this year being our increasing Learning Disability focus, working with LLDC colleagues on the Unified Contract and on other LD commissioning issues. LCA represents domiciliary care as well as residential and nursing care providers. Although our main membership is in the LCC area we have been very active in Blackpool and also have members in Blackburn with Darwen and adjoining areas (Wigan, St Helens, Cumbria and Sefton). We continue to have a more mixed private/ voluntary sector provider profile as befits an association whose focus is on how to help good independent providers deliver quality care whatever their type and whoever they care for and support. We are recruiting one new member every week on average. If you are a quality provider from the private or voluntary sector, help us help you. Support us. Join us. Email: enquiries@lancashirecare.org.uk with 'Join LCA' in the message header or ring Sarah Luton on 01772 455574.
Work with Lancashire PCTs Regular liaison meetings have begun, during 2009, between LCA and North Lancs PCT and East Lancs PCT. We'll update you here ASAP.

~~~~~~~~ ON THE REST OF THIS PAGELCA Events – Safeguarding in Lancashire - Lancashire Dignity in Care Charter - - Member Benefits.~~~~~~~~Safeguarding in Lancashire – Everybody’s Business Throughout June and July LCA are conducting a telephone survey of providers across the LCC area. This is being done through the Social Care Partnership and the aims are to raise the profile of safeguarding issues with proprietors, managers and care staff, get some baseline information about awareness and training issues for care providers, and to help ensure providers have a voice in how this new challenge is managed. A sample of providers will be contacted by telephone. The findings will be reported back later in the year at events, in newsletter and from website sources. Currently (October 2009) we are conducting a series of focus groups on Safeguarding. These are advertised as they occur. If you have any queries email paul.simic@lancashirecare.org.uk December update: this project it at its imterim point and an interim report will be available shortly.~~~~~~~~LANCASHIRE 'DIGNITY IN CARE' CHARTER:The charter has been given a major profile at both at the 'Learning Together' workshops held at Farington Lodge by LCA and LCC with the support of the Dept of Health. There's a premium in the fees' settlement linked to the signing of the Charter. We are encouraging every provider (care homes and dom care) to sign up. NB. In 2009-2010, those who don't sign up will not retain the Dignity in Care Premium 2009-2010.
MEMBER BENEFITS:LCA is continuously looking out for supplier deals for members (you must use your LCA membership number to access these benefits).
HAITI DISASTER: DEC Appeal To
make it easier for the LCA members (and anyone else in the care
networks in Lancashire) to contribute this appeal launched on Friday
here is the link to the Disasters Emergency Committee: http://www.dec.org.uk . The link straight through to the online donation page is https://www.donate.bt.com/dec_form_haiti.html. Their website also carries this information on donating: To make a postal donation make cheques payable to ‘DEC Haiti Earthquake’ and mail to ‘PO Box 999, London, EC3A 3AA’. Donations can be made at any high street bank, or at a Post Office by quoting Freepay 1449.
The
DEC consists of: Action Aid, British Red Cross, CAFOD, CARE
International UK, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, Help the Aged,
Islamic Relief, Merlin, Oxfam, Save the Children, Tearfund, World
Vision.
The DEC criteria to launch an appeal are: The disaster
must be on such a scale and of such urgency as to call for swift
International humanitarian assistance. The DEC agencies, or some of
them, must be in a position to provide effective and swift humanitarian
assistance at a scale to justify a national Appeal. There must be
reasonable grounds for concluding that a public appeal would be
successful, either because of evidence of existing public sympathy for
the humanitarian situation or because there is a compelling case
indicating the likelihood of significant public support should an
appeal be launched. For BBC coverage and links: http://www.bbc.co.uk/
