Each local practice is owned and managed by a clinical director who is always on hand to deal with any queries you may have. What services do we provide?

Our optometrists provide thorough eye examinations for those who find it difficult to attend a high street practice. Our Eye Care Plan training DVD helps care staff understand the importance of eye care and how they can help each individual resident. Our dispensing assistants can, when appropriate, help residents choose a suitable frame from a selection of over 200 styles.

Why is an eye examination important to elderly?

It is especially important as we get older to have regular eye examinations. Our eye examination will;

• Detect diseases of the eye which may require treatment e.g. cataracts and glaucoma. 
• Identify poor vision and advise on how to improve quality of life and safety. (30% of people over 65 are estimated to be visually impaired).
• Provide a report as part of our Eye Care Plan to care staff to help them understand each residents needs.
• Establish if updated spectacles are necessary. (270,000 people over 75 experience unnecessary sight loss due to wearing outdated spectacles or no spectacles at all)
   

How can Vision Call examine someone with limited communication?

Many of our specialist techniques do not require a full response from our patients and are vital when examining patients with communication difficulties. e.g. dementia.  The prescription can be obtained by using an  Autorefractor and a Retinoscope which give accurate guideline of the strength of lens required to correct patient’s vision.
 

Why might spectacles be important to elderly?

Spectacles are still the simplest and most effective means of improving vision among the elderly. 96% of people over 55 wear spectacles. Wearing the appropriate spectacles can improve our quality of life by enhancing our view of our environment and improve safety by reducing falls. Our report for care staff will identify when spectacles should be worn and our spectacle engraving service helps prevent spectacles becoming lost in home.
