HBS Pharmacy

Introduction

Established in April 2009, HBS Pharmacy develops and manages pharmacies and dispensaries throughout the UK. These may be introduced as an integral part of health centre development schemes or as independent pharmacies in communities where there is clear evidence of need.

This approach has proven very successful. Within our first year, we have established four branches and, with many more projects in development, we aim to have fifteen operational pharmacy outlets by March 2011.

Vision & Strategy

Our principal goal is to develop the business by building effective partnerships with GPs, PCTs and other healthcare professionals, and through the provision of services that deliver outstanding value and excellent patient care.

Our emphasis is on establishing pharmacies within health centres. Operating in such close proximity enables us to build strong links with GPs and leads inevitably to enhanced communication and improved service delivery - both in terms of healthcare support and medication. Patients also benefit from greater convenience and a closer relationship with their pharmacist, who, in turn, gains a clear understanding of their needs.

We develop our services and facilities as a result of detailed research into the requirements of the local community, and we work with the PCT and partners within the health sector to review, assess and implement the services required.

We aim to differentiate ourselves on the basis of quality and customer service. We offer a wide range of services as standard – from a healthcare advice line and shop discounts to prescription collections, deliveries and medicine reviews – and we will constantly re-appraise our portfolio to ensure that it remains relevant and valuable to the local community.

This degree of commitment to customer service is - and will remain - central to our strategy for growth. Our reputation is precious so our pharmacies must be seen to reflect our real determination to treat clients with the utmost respect and dignity at all times, and to deliver exceptional value and quality of care.

 Delivery Capacity

We endeavour to provide all the services that are available to patients within the PCT. With any new development, we generally begin with a full Pharmacy Needs Assessment so as to consider the needs of the area being served. We then work with the local PCT and its partners to agree a complete service portfolio.

These services will normally include the provision of a free delivery service, which we offer in all our pharmacies, together with late night and weekend opening so as to ensure maximum accessibility to the public.

As part of our commitment to care homes we have integrated a total medication management system in partnership with Protomed the creators of Biodose. The first innovative medication management system in the world designed to accommodate liquid medication alongside tablets and capsules, saving valuable staff time as they no longer need to pour and measure at the bedside.

The Biodose system has proven to reduce, medication rounds by up to 65%, the medication will be pre-packed in a pod ready for the patient to take. Each pod will be individually labelled with the correct drug detail, patient name and interval time. This will help reduce medication errors and help the home to protect and increase their CQC rating.

The Biodose system offers maximum protection for residents, care staff and management. It will promote mobility and confidence amongst self-medicators, by having each individual liquid and tablet dose labelled with the relevant information, printed with the MAR sheet alongside a photographic picture of the drug and the patient it belongs to.

The superior seal of the blister enables drugs such as Epilim, Heminevrin, Hydroscopic drugs, Effervescent tablets etc to also be blistered along with all the other medication.

The Biodose system is quick and easy to use, simply peel pod and administer, the advantages of the biodose system are:

·         It saves time

·         It is more hygienic

·         Lightweight
