Concern for Care: Get Involved

Cost & Quality (Session 1)

Against the backdrop of fee cuts and increasing costs and demands, this seminar is an important opportunity for providers to engage with the council on the issues of costs and fair fees. There is national recognition that the care system is underfunded and that there is an emerging crisis in care funding affecting quality and sustainability.

This seminar carries important information about how we are to confront these enormous challenges in Lancashire. What is a fair price for providing good quality care? Hear about ways to cost your care fees and validate them for a sustainable quality care provision and business viability.

There is important work going on right now from Lancashire County Council and through the Social Care Partnership on exploring provider costs. Local Authorities around the country are following a similar pattern, post JRs, of provider consultation re. costs. This can be done well or badly. LCA is intent on engaging effectively with the consultants (Spikes Cavell) and with LCC on this so it is done well and properly. You will have received a questionnaire asking you for information. Get involved, get engaged with this challenge, have your say. Help shape the future of care services in Lancashire.

Speakers:
Ken Nolan, Chair LCA - ‘Care Home Fees – Demonstrating a Fair Price for Quality Care’

Geoff Birch – ‘DIY Fair Price, Understanding the Model’

Ray Legge, ‘Spikes Cavell – Social Care: The Double Challenge’
Q&A Session, Ray Legge, Spikes Cavell & Ann Mylie, Head of Quality and Contracting Unit (ACS)

Safeguarding – Everybody’s Business (Session 2)

LCA, through and with the SCP, contributes to the work of Lancashire Safeguarding Adults Board. It is a year on from the Joint Statement. Where are we now? What is the provider experience of the Safeguarding process in Lancashire? This is your opportunity to hear from one of the country's leading voices on Safeguarding, Dr Margaret Flynn, who Chairs the Safeguarding Board, and to take part in the dialogue with the County Council lead, Mike Banks and colleagues. As with fees and costs, this is your chance to influence key decision-makers and to help ensure a strong independent sector voice.

Speakers:
Dr Margaret Flynn – ‘Learning Together’: What we’ve learned about Safeguarding in Lancashire’
Mike Banks,LCC, County Head Active Intervention and Safeguarding
