Local Care Homes win prestigious awards

Proving that it is not just the young who can win prizes for their gardens, two local
Companies who each provide different levels of assistance for the elderly, have walked away with prestigious “In bloom” awards, and NOT WITHOUT THE HELP OF THEIR RESIDENTS!

For the third consecutive year, Hedges House Residential Care Home on Church Road in Lytham
has won the Gold award in the Care category of the local Lytham In Bloom awards, whilst The
Homestead who manage Privately-owned residential apartments for older people, on Henry
Street, have won the Gold award in the non-commercial section for the 4th time running. Hedges House also won the Lions Club trophy for “best overall”.

However, last week’s Royal Horticultural Society’s presentation of the North West regional Awards at Southport’s Theatre and Convention Centre recognised the flair and talent of both organisations, when Hedges House was awarded a Silver Gilt level 4 award and the Homestead a gold/outstanding Level 5.

Each Spring, both companies are ably assisted by their residents when planning and planting in readiness for the judging which usually takes place in July. At Hedges House, the Residents’ Gardening Club has been a hugh success for residents, many of whom have been keen gardeners in the past, whilst the Homestead who also enlist the help of their residents, run fund raising events for the project.

Lytham in Bloom was formed in 1998 by a small number of interested local residents and companies to promote Lytham as a lovely place in which to live or visit and to participate in regional and national competitions.

Robert Chadwick proprietor of Hedges House and Christine Irvine, House Manager of the Homestead both agree that by their own individual efforts, it has been a great pleasure to have been able to provide such beautiful displays for the benefit of Lytham and its Community.
